About this event
On Friday, Sept. 17, the League of Women Voters-Comal Area invites all area residents to join us to commemorate the signing of the US Constitution and to celebrate the rights and responsibilities of US citizenship. The foundation of our representative democracy is our freedom to vote which gives Americans a say in key decisions that impact our lives, jobs, health care and the education our children receive.

The freedom to cast our ballots safely and equally in a transparent electoral process we can trust is a nonpartisan issue. Fair and equitable elections are essential to make the promise of democracy real for all of us. We invite you to join us and our community partners - the Bexar Area Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority(BAAC) , the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the New Braunfels MLK Association and the NAACP- at Main Plaza in New Braunfels at 6 p.m. on the 17th to stand with others across our nation in support of the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. This legislation would protect and strengthen the right to vote, get big money out of politics, ensure voting system security and end gerrymandering so that voters are more fairly represented. It restores the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to protect our freedom against the anti-voter measures passed here in Texas and around the nation.

Stand with us on Constitution and Citizenship Day!
